#Create tax rates

Create tax rates in Settings > Invoicing > Tax rates, with a name and a percentage, for example “County sales tax 6.25%”. You can apply up to 3 tax rates to a line item, and set a default rate per item in the price book, for example tax on parts but not on labor. Fieldnote calculates tax per line and shows each rate separately on the invoice.

#Tax-exempt customers

Open the customer and turn on Tax exempt, then upload the exemption certificate if you want it on file. Invoices for that customer are created with no tax. Fieldnote does not file or pay sales tax for you; use your accountant or QuickBooks Online for that. When syncing, each Fieldnote rate must be mapped to a QuickBooks tax code (see QuickBooks sync errors).
